PROEM.

 

The object of this publication is to extend widely the opportunity to enjoy the best passages in reports, letters, and other writings which otherwise would reach but a limited circle of readers. Much that occurs in the everyday experience of missionaries upon the Korea field is to intensely interesting to ourselves and we feel would be so interesting. could it be brought within their knowledge, to hosts of personal friends and well-wishers, that we have at length com to take the step of issuing a quarterly periodical for the purpose of bringing a larger number into sympathy with our aims and surroundings. The busy missionary can ill spare time to give an adequate description of his word and its conditions in private letters. And the general missionary magazines are besieged with too great a wealth of material of absorbing interest concerning numerous fields to be able to devote much space to what we offer. Yet it is the vivid presentation of detail in anecdote and incident which we look to to arrest and fix attention. If “The Korea Field” is successful not merely in giving entertainment but also in engendering a sympathetic interest in our work, it will have fully realized the hope of the editor in regard to it.

 

The present number is largely made up of extracts from the reports of personal work made at the time of the Annual Meeting in October, because this is the newest information from the several workers. It is our intention issue by issue to present the latest available accounts from all parts of the field, and we earnestly hope this may include the workers in all of the four Presbyterian missions engaged in the task of evangelizing Korea.

이 출판물의 목적은 보고서, 편지 및 기타 글에서 가장 훌륭한 구절들을 널리 공유하여 제한된 독자층을 넘어 더 많은 사람들에게 전하고자 하는 것입니다. 한국 선교사들이 일상적으로 경험하는 많은 일들이 우리에게는 매우 흥미롭고, 이를 개인적인 친구들과 후원자들에게 알릴 수 있다면 더욱 흥미로울 것이라고 생각했습니다. 그래서 우리는 더 많은 사람들이 우리의 목표와 환경에 공감할 수 있도록 분기별 정기 간행물을 발행하기로 결심했습니다. 바쁜 선교사들은 개인적인 편지에서 자신의 사역과 그 조건을 충분히 설명할 시간을 내기 어렵습니다. 또한, 일반적인 선교 잡지들은 여러 분야에 관한 흥미로운 자료가 너무 많아 우리가 제공하는 내용에 많은 공간을 할애할 수 없습니다. 그러나 우리는 생생한 일화와 사건을 통해 독자의 관심을 끌고 고정시키고자 합니다. “The Korea Field”가 단순히 오락을 제공하는 것뿐만 아니라 우리의 사역에 대한 공감하는 관심을 불러일으킨다면, 그것이 편집자가 바라던 바를 충분히 실현한 것이 될 것입니다.

 

현재 호는 10월에 열린 연례 회의에서 각 개인의 사역에 대한 보고서에서 발췌한 내용으로 주로 구성되어 있습니다. 이는 여러 선교사들로부터 최신 정보를 제공하기 위함입니다. 우리는 매 호마다 이 필드의 모든 지역에서 가능한 최신 계정을 제공할 계획이며, 이는 한국을 복음화하기 위해 노력하는 네 개의 장로교 선교사들이 포함되기를 진심으로 바랍니다.
