CLIPPINGS FROM OCTOBER REPORTS.

ON Buddha’s birthday we had a stampede of country women. From early morning they began gathering in Mr. Bruen’s court-yard in front of the women’s guest-room. By church time there was scarcely standing room in the yard and Mr. Adams’ helper had been preaching from the church porch to the church yard full of women as well. As the men who had gathered did not constitute a drop in the bucket, and as meeting in any building was altogether out of the question, the male portion of the congregation ranged itself in front of Mr. Bruen’s door on a slight elevation, the ladies with a few Christian women took possession of the house, and the preachers one after another mounted the two store boxes which had been improvised for a pulpit and preached to some five hundred women.

This Pung Kok group consists of some nine professing Christians, only one of whom is a catechnmen. He heard the gospel about a year ago from Mr. Adams’ helper while taking a meal at an inn. He attended the winter Bible class and at its close was received as a catechumen. He was ignorant but earnest and about him has sprung up a strong group consisting of four families. Mr. Bruen recently visited this group and at the morning Sunday service some twenty gathered for worship. The natural leader is an inn-keeper. He is a man above his class, of whom Mr. Adams’ helper said “He began to preach the very night of his conversion.” We found for miles around every one knew he was a Christian. He witnesses to every one whom she meets. On Sabbath they meet regularly, take a record of attendance, and take a good collection. Already they were discussing a site for a church.

부처님 생일에 우리는 시골 여성들의 대규모 모임이 있었습니다. 이른 아침부터 그들은 Mr. Bruen의 마당에 있는 여성 접객실 앞에 모이기 시작했습니다. 예배 시간이 되자 마당에는 서 있을 공간조차 없었고, Mr. Adams의 보조자는 교회 포치에서 마당 가득한 여성들에게 설교하고 있었습니다. 모인 남성들은 미미한 수에 불과했기에, 어떤 건물에서 모임을 갖는 것은 전혀 불가능했습니다. 남성들은 Mr. Bruen의 문 앞의 작은 고지에 모였고, 여성들과 몇몇 기독교 여성들은 집 안을 차지했습니다. 설교자들은 임시로 마련된 두 개의 상자 위에 올라가 약 500명의 여성에게 설교했습니다.
