NOTES OF FALL ITINERATING TRIP.

When I reached Tum Pongi church I found Mr. Yu there, a member of a church on the seacoast where the famine is worst this year. He said he had to move with his family or starve, and that he knew he would be sure to find friends at one of the inland churches; that he had come here and found them, for the people of this church, though they do not know how they are going to live through the winter, had taken up a collection, got him a house, and helped him make a living. Thus the Gospel is binding the hearts of these people together.

 

A man testified in one of our meetings; “Before I believed I had no friends. Now anywhere I go over Korea I find brothers and sisters in the churches.”

 

At So Tai a young man came in tp be catechized for entrance to the catechumenate, who had been a Catholic for a short time, but wanted to join our church, as his father attended it. I was attracted to his face among the others by the eagerness with which he drank in the explanation of John 3:16. It was a new plan of salvation to him. I advised him to buy a Testament and make a careful study of it : and left for my headquarters at another church. The next day, as I was going along the road, I found him sitting by the side reading a Testament he had just bought from my helper.

 

One of the boys here at Tum Pongi when he first was able to buy a Testament (he helps support a widowed mother) took it out on the mountains with him as he went for wood. As he sat down for a minute’s rest he pulled it out and devoured it. In fact, they tell me that he was so hungry for it, so eager to take it in, that he would actually put the edge of the book in his mouth and bite it. What a pleasure to teach such students of the Word!

가을 전도 여행 노트

둠봉기(Tum Pongi) 교회에 도착했을 때, 저는 그곳에 있는 유 씨(Mr. Yu)를 만났습니다. 그는 올해 기근이 가장 심한 해안 지역의 교회 회원입니다. 그는 가족과 함께 이사하지 않으면 굶어 죽을 것이라고 했습니다. 그는 내륙의 교회에서 친구들을 찾을 것이라는 확신을 가지고 이곳에 왔고, 이 교회 사람들이 겨울을 어떻게 지낼지 알지 못하지만 모금 활동을 통해 그에게 집을 마련해 주고 생계를 도와주었다고 말했습니다. 이렇게 복음은 이 사람들의 마음을 함께 묶고 있습니다.

 

우리 모임 중 한 남성이 증언했습니다. “제가 믿기 전에는 친구가 없었습니다. 이제 한국 어디를 가든지 교회에서 형제자매를 만납니다.”

 

소태(So Tai)에서는 한 젊은이가 입회하기 위해 교리 교육을 받으러 왔습니다. 그는 잠시 가톨릭 신자였으나 아버지가 다니는 우리 교회에 가입하고 싶어 했습니다. 나는 그가 요한복음 3장 16절의 설명을 열심히 듣는 모습에서 그의 얼굴에 끌렸습니다. 그것은 그에게 새로운 구원의 계획이었습니다. 나는 그에게 신약 성경을 사서 면밀히 연구하라고 조언하고 다른 교회로 본부로 떠났습니다. 다음 날, 길을 가던 중 그는 방금 사온 성경을 읽고 있는 모습을 발견했습니다.

 

둠봉기(Tum Pongi)에서 한 소년은 처음으로 성경을 살 수 있었을 때(그는 홀로 된 어머니를 부양하는 데 도움을 줍니다) 나무를 캐러 산에 나가면서 성경을 가지고 나갔습니다. 그는 잠깐 쉬는 동안 성경을 꺼내어 흡입하듯 읽었습니다. 사실, 그가 너무 간절히 원해서 성경의 가장자리를 입에 대고 물어버리기까지 했다고 합니다. 이렇게 말씀을 배우고자 하는 학생들에게 가르치는 것은 정말 기쁨입니다!
